ABOUT ME

Teachers and travelers have the best stories.  For over seven years, I’ve been both, and in the process I’ve collected a trove of tales that I’ve loved sharing with friends and family. I created Travels by Tim as a way to spread and encourage even more storytelling.

about me

I caught the travel bug early. When I was five, I moved from the U.S. to a town outside of Cairo, Egypt.

15 years later, I took my first solo trip abroad to Ecuador. Today I wander the world as much as I can and work as an expedition leader for Putney Student Travel as a way to share in that travel experience with others. I created Travels by Tim as a way to encourage more storytelling.

From Egypt to Ecuador and beyond...

TEACHING

It’s the most difficult job in the world. I’m still not sure what’s worse than teaching teenagers how to write a thesis statement. But young people have given me a lot to laugh about and love in this life. What’s more, as an English teacher, getting lost in a story has always come naturally to me. Sharing the power of storytelling with students is one of the best perks of the job.

SOCKS/TENNIS (?)

I’m a light packer but two things impossible for me to leave behind when I travel are my colorful sock collection and my love for tennis. Expect the occasional reference to both as you read my stories. I’m hoping to put together a travel recommendations page one day, with information about my favorite socks and tennis stuff, too.
